                          Varicose and Spider Veins

Varicose and spider veins are a common problem affecting about one in four women.  It is usually a hereditary problem so men can get them as well.  Varicose veins are distinguished from spider veins by size. Factors that exacerbate the condition include pregnancy, trauma, birth control medications, and prolonged standing.  Varicose and spider veins may have associated symptoms such as leg fatigue, pain, swelling, and cramps which are usually more noticeable during menstruation. Untreated varicose veins can lead to phlebitis (inflamed blood clot), hyper pigmentation, venous stasis changes and ulceration.

All varicose and spider veins can now be treated with minimally invasive techniques which include injections, laser, and mini-surgery.  The majority of veins are best treated with injections but the doctor must evaluate each patient to determine which treatment is the best option.

Each injection treatment includes up to 30 injections.  Treatment sessions are quick lasting 15-30 minutes and there is usually no down time.  The number of treatments a patient will need to get the desired final results depends on the extent of their disease and the patient's response to the injections.   Since varicose and spider veins are a genetic condition,  there may be recurrence.
